Updates on Additional Pension Benefits for Central Government Pensioners

What is Additional and who are entitled

The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, through the Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare, has issued a memorandum (F. No. 38/10(04)/2024-P&PW(A)) dated 18.10.2024, regarding conditions for granting additional pension to retired Central Government civil employees. This is in accordance with Rule 44(6) of CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021, which replaces Rule 49(2-A) of the earlier CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972.

📅 Applicability:

This order applies to retired Government servants who have completed 80 years of age or above, and are in receipt of either a pension or a compassionate allowance.

💰 Slab-Wise Additional Pension Rates:

🕒 When is it Payable?

  • The additional pension is payable from the first day of the calendar month in which the pensioner reaches the qualifying age.
  • Example: A pensioner born on 20th August 1942 is eligible for 20% additional pension from 1st August 2022 (not from 20th August).

📢 Instructions to Departments and Banks:

  • All Ministries/Departments and Pension Disbursing Authorities/Banks are instructed to ensure compliance with the above provisions.
  • Necessary systems must be updated to ensure automatic credit of additional pension based on the pensioner’s date of birth.

This order is a significant relief for elderly pensioners, ensuring they receive additional financial support as they age. All eligible retirees are advised to check their pension slips and bank credits to ensure they are receiving the correct additional amount as per their age.
