Registered Post is now past and it will no more be possible in India. A Circular issued by Government of India, Department of Posts (Mails Operations Division) on 02 July 2025 related to amendment of Administrative Instructions, SOPs, and Operational Guidelines due to the Merger of Registered Post with Speed Post (for Domestic Transmission)
🔹 Key Update:
The Department of Posts has announced a significant operational reform involving the merger of the “Registered Post” service with the “Speed Post” service for domestic mail transmission. This merger has been approved by the Secretary and Director General and will be effective from 1st September 2025.
🔹 Objectives of the Merger:
The key goals of this reform are:
- 🔄 Streamline mail services
- ⚙️ Enhance operational efficiency
- 📦 Improve tracking mechanisms
- 🧾 Simplify customer experience
- 📘 Unify similar services under one consolidated framework
This unified model is expected to offer quicker, more reliable, and traceable delivery options, thereby eliminating confusion between similar services.
🔹 Instructions to Departments:
In preparation for this major shift, all Directorates and Divisions are directed to:
- Conduct a thorough review of:
- Administrative instructions
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Functional orders
- Workflow documents
- Technical manuals
- Training materials
- Identify and modify references to:
- “Registered Post”
- “Registered Post with Acknowledgement Due”
🔹 Action Timeline:
- ✅ Deadline for Amendments: All changes must be finalized well in advance.
- 📩 Confirmation on Action Taken: To be submitted to the Directorate by 31 July 2025.
The timeline ensures that the merger is smoothly implemented on 01.09.2025 without service disruption.
