About DESW

DESW functions through its three key organizations:

  • Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) – Looks after policies and programs for ex-servicemen.
  • Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) – Focuses on employment and resettlement of veterans.
  • Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) – Provides healthcare services to veterans and their dependents.

Objective of the Internship

The primary aim is to engage Indian youth in research and analysis of welfare programs related to ex-servicemen. Interns will:

  • Gain firsthand experience in policy-making processes.
  • Understand challenges in implementing veteran welfare schemes.
  • Provide valuable recommendations through research reports.

Nature of Engagement

  • Type: Non-remunerative internship (unpaid).
  • Orientation: Informative, research-based, and analytical.
  • Outcome: Comprehensive study reports that can aid policy improvement.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.
  • Education: Graduate or postgraduate student from a recognized university in any stream.
  • Documentation:
    • Resume
    • Statement of Purpose (max 200 words)
    • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the parent institution

Duration

  • Minimum: 2 months
  • Maximum: 12 months
  • Available throughout the year as per DESW’s requirements.

Interns will work on diverse areas including:

  1. Welfare Schemes for Ex-Servicemen and their families.
  2. Resettlement & Rehabilitation initiatives.
  3. Healthcare Policies under ECHS.
  4. Administrative Processes and challenges in veteran affairs.

Deliverables

  • Research Report: A detailed analysis of the assigned topic.
  • Key Observations: Best practices, challenges, and suggestions for improvement.
  • Participation: Discussions and presentations if required.

Completion & Certification

  • Submission of final report to DESW.
  • Certificate of completion upon satisfactory performance.
  • Selected reports may be published with due credit to interns.
