Cyber fraudsters are now calling pensioners, pretending to be officials from the Pension Directorate. These criminals often have detailed personal information of the pensioner, including:

  • PPO number (Pension Payment Order number)
  • Aadhaar Card number
  • Permanent address
  • Email ID
  • Monthly pension amount
  • Amount received on retirement

They claim that the pensioner’s Jeevan Pramaan Patra needs to be updated online and ask the pensioner to share an OTP (One-Time Password) sent to their registered mobile number.

What Happens When OTP is Shared

Once the OTP is shared:

  • The scammers gain full access to the pensioner’s bank account.
  • They withdraw the entire pension amount from the account.
  • The stolen funds are immediately transferred to fake bank accounts or digital wallets, making recovery extremely difficult.

This results in severe financial loss for the pension holder and their families.

Key Warnings from the Cyber Crime Cell

  • The Pension Directorate never calls pensioners to request OTPs or to update Jeevan Pramaan Patra online.
  • They do not update Jeevan Pramaan Patra over the phone or internet.
  • Only the pension holder can update the Jeevan Pramaan Patra by personally visiting the Pension Directorate or authorized service centers.
