Exserviceman Status to Recruits Boarded out due to Disability
Nature of service of the Armed Forces personnel is entirely different from others who worked in civil departments/ministries/offices. A large number of armed forces trainees every year found disabled and lost their well being due to fall ill during rigorous training activities. The members of Indian Armed Forces are well reognised in our society for their Sacrifice for mother land. In adverse condition they commit the task and duties assigned to them without raising any question. Mountains and desert are no more barrier for them. Govt of India has extended several welfare scheme for Ex-servicemen, war widows and their family members through Directorate of Ex-serviceman Welfare and Kendriya Sainik Board. Such Recruits who have been released from Armed forces due to disability occurred during their training period is also need financial support to live with minimum respect and earn livelihood.
Recruits who are released due to disability and entitled to get medical/disability pension are considered by the Govt to be awarded Ex-serviceman status for all practical purpose w.e.f 01.02.2006 irrespective of their date of release from Armed Forces.
Who all are eligible for Exserviceman Status those Recruits Boarded out due to Disability.
- Recruits who have been released from Armed Forces due to disability occurred during training/induction and getting medical pension.
- Authority of grant of ex-serviceman status to recruit are as under
(a) Ministry of Defence, DESW letter No 12(1)2005/D (Res-I) dt 07 July 2014
(b) Initially award of ESM status to recruits were given vide Ministry of Defence, DESW letter No 12(1)2005/D (Res-I) dt 18 march 2013
Benefits of Exserviceman status granted to recruits
The recruits who have been granted ESM status will be capable to avil the following facilities :
- Can avail Pension and pensionery benefits
- Become member of ECHS
- ESM Identity card
- Discharge Book duly mentioned Exserviceman
- Avail all KSB and DGR scheme benefits
- CSD canteen card benefit
- Reservation of Jobs in Ex-serviceman quota in Govt/PSU
- All types of benefits and concession applicable to exservicemen

Such medically released recruits may contact to Zila ainik Board/ Rajya Sainik Board or Kendriya Sainik Board to avail the benefit.
