Why CSD Canteen Smart Need to Renew?
A CSD (Canteen Stores Department) Smart Card is issued to Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and entitled dependents to avail facilities at military canteens across India. However, many veterans may not be aware that this card comes with a validity period of 10 years, after which it automatically gets deactivated.
⚠️ Card Expiry Alert: 10-Year Validity Rule
- CSD Smart Cards are valid for 10 years from the date of issue, not from the date of activation or use.
- Once expired, the canteen privileges are automatically stopped unless renewed.
- The expiry date is not printed separately but can be decoded from the card number itself.
🔎 How to Check CSD Card Expiry Date?
The card number contains the issue date in a specific format. Here’s how to decode it:
👉 Example:
Card No: GB06041692591600TOO
- 06 → Day
- 04 → Month
- 16 → Year
📅 Date of Issue = 06/04/2016
📅 Expiry Date = 06/04/2026
So, the card will automatically stop working on 06 April 2026 unless renewed beforehand.
📋 How to Renew Your CSD Smart Card?
- Visit the nearest Station Canteen Office or login to the CSD AFD portal
- Fill in the renewal application form
- Attach a copy of your expired CSD card, PPO, Aadhaar, and recent photograph
- Submit the form and collect acknowledgment
- You will be notified when the new card is ready for collection
📣 Share This Information with Fellow Veterans
Most Ex-Servicemen and family members may not be aware of the 10-year validity and silent expiry of CSD cards. This often leads to disruption in canteen services and inconvenience at the last moment.
Please circulate this message to all ESM groups and associations.
📝 Conclusion
Keeping track of your CSD Card’s expiry date is essential to ensure uninterrupted canteen services. Veterans are encouraged to check the card number and calculate the date of expiry. Renew your card before the expiry date to avoid any disruption.
