PMSS Scholarship 2026: Big Relief for Wards of Ex-Servicemen Pursuing Integrated Courses
The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) has brought welcome relief to thousands of dependents of Ex-Servicemen and Defence Personnel. The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) has clarified that students enrolled in approved integrated courses are now eligible to receive the scholarship from the first year itself, instead of waiting until the third year as required under the earlier policy.
This clarification has been circulated to all Rajya Sainik Boards (RSBs), Zila Sainik Boards (ZSBs) and other concerned authorities to ensure that eligible students are not denied the scholarship.
If your son or daughter has taken admission in an integrated professional course such as BA LLB, BCom LLB, BSc LLB, Integrated B.Ed, or Integrated MBA, this update could make them eligible for PMSS immediately.

DESW Clarification on PMSS Scholarship
The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare has observed that some Zila Sainik Boards were still following the old policy, under which students pursuing integrated courses—particularly BA LLB—were not permitted to apply during the first year.
To remove this confusion, DESW has reiterated that:
The revised PMSS policy is applicable from Academic Year 2024-25 onwards, and students enrolled in approved integrated courses are eligible to apply for PMSS for the entire duration of the course beginning from the first year itself.
The revised policy has already been updated on the Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) PMSS portal.
What Has Changed in PMSS Policy?
Earlier Policy (before 2025)
Under the previous guidelines:
Students pursuing integrated courses had to wait until the professional component of the course started.
For example, BA LLB students generally became eligible only from the third year, causing many deserving students to miss scholarship benefits during the first two years.
Revised Policy
Under the revised PMSS policy:
- Scholarship is available from the very first year.
- Eligible students will continue receiving the scholarship throughout the approved duration of the integrated course, subject to PMSS conditions.
This revision significantly increases financial support for families of Ex-Servicemen.
