Indian Air Force Leads Massive Operation to Control Kasauli Forest Fire

The Indian Air Force, with active support from the Army and local administration, played a crucial role in controlling the devastating forest fire in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh.

Mi-17 V5 helicopters equipped with Bambi Buckets were deployed from 26 May 2026 to conduct aerial firefighting operations. In a significant achievement, firefighting missions were carried out both during the day and at night using Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), marking a rare operational capability.

Despite difficult terrain, dense smoke, and challenging flying conditions, the crews continued operations until the fire was brought under control. More than 93,000 litres of water were dropped through multiple sorties, with helicopters lifting 2,000–2,500 litres per trip from Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh. The operation helped save lives, forests, and critical infrastructure.
