Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has launched ‘Shruti’, the Indian Navy’s second Next-Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), at its Kolkata shipyard on August 11, 2026. The vessel is part of a four-ship NGOPV programme being built by GRSE, strengthening India’s maritime security and indigenous warship-building capabilities.
Around 113 metres long and 14.6 metres wide, Shruti has a displacement of approximately 3,000 tonnes and can achieve speeds of up to 23 knots. With an endurance of about 8,500 nautical miles at 14 knots, the vessel is designed for extended maritime operations.
The Indian Navy NGOPV will perform multiple roles, including maritime surveillance, anti-piracy operations, coastal security, VBSS missions, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and special operations. Its advanced sensors and equipment will further enhance the Navy’s operational reach.
The launch of Shruti highlights India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative and GRSE’s growing role in developing modern naval platforms for the Indian Navy.
