GPRA Licence Fee Revised from 1 July 2026: What Every Central Government Employee Should Know
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has officially revised the flat rate of licence fee for General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) allotted to Central Government employees throughout the country.
The revised rates have been notified through Office Memorandum No. 18011/2/2015-Pol.III dated 17 July 2026 and will come into force with effect from 1 July 2026.
The revision will affect lakhs of Central Government employees residing in GPRA accommodations managed by the Directorate of Estates and departmental pools.
Why Has the Licence Fee Been Revised?
Under Rule 74 of the Central Government General Pool Residential Accommodation Rules, 2017, the Government periodically reviews and revises the licence fee payable by allottees of Government residential accommodation.
Accordingly, the Government has approved revised flat licence fee rates applicable to GPRA and Departmental Pool accommodations across India.
Effective Date
The revised licence fee rates will be applicable from: 1 July 2026
All Ministries and Departments have been instructed to recover the revised licence fee from eligible allottees from this date onwards.

Licence Fee for Independent Servant Quarters and Garages
Where servant quarters or garages are allotted independently, the following monthly licence fee shall be charged:

Who Will Be Affected?
The revised rates will apply to:
- Central Government employees occupying GPRA.
- Employees residing in Departmental Pool accommodation.
- Allottees across all States and Union Territories.
Who Is Exempt?
The Office Memorandum specifically excludes:
- Substandard or unclassified accommodation under the Ministry of Defence
- Accommodation meant for Defence service personnel
- Accommodation under the control of the Ministry of Railways
What Should Government Employees Do?
Employees occupying GPRA should:
- Verify the category of their allotted accommodation.
- Check the revised monthly licence fee applicable to their accommodation.
- Ensure that salary deductions reflect the revised rates from July 2026 onwards.
- Contact the Estate Office or Drawing & Disbursing Officer (DDO) in case of discrepancies.
