Change in Rules of Enhanced rate of Family Pension

Enhanced rate of pension is applicable to family pensioners which were earlier regulated as per pension regulations for the concerned services. Now, a special amendment has been issued to remove the restrictions of minimum qualifying service considering the sacrifice for the nation. Detailed instruction is appended here.

PROVISION OF GRANT OF ENHANCED RATE OF FAMILY PENSION TO NOK OF DECEASED ARMED FORCES PERSONNEL WITH ESS THAN 07 YEARS OF QUALIFYING SERVICE

1.   Refer to Gol MoD letter No. 14(02)/2019/D (Pen/Pol) dated 05 Oct 20, not addressed to all, copy enclosed.                                                   

2.  Extreme Danger : Service in the IN and the Armed Forces is inherently risky with constant threat to life. This danger is especially omnipresent for personnel when they are junior in service.

3.   Existing Policy – Mandatory Requirement of  07 Years Service. In accordance with Gol. MoD letter No. 1(6)/98 0 (Pension/Services) dated 03 Feb 1998 not addressed to all, provision for payment of Ordinary Family Pension at Enhanced rates, exists only for an individual who dies while in service and has rendered minimum 07 years of continuous Qualifying Service,

4.   New Policy – Removal of 07 Years Service Clause.   In order, to address this shortcoming. a case was taken up with Gol, MoD for revision of the ibid policy and removal of conditionality of Qualifying Service of 07 years, Gol, MoD, DESW vide letter ibid, has now promulgated the following:-

Armed Forces Personnel who dies in Service with less than 07 years of Qualifying Service, shall be eligible for Enhanced rate of Family Pension.

Where an Armed Forces Personnel died within ten years before 01 Oct 19, without completing continuous service of seven years, his/her family shall be eligible for Ordinary Family Pension at Enhanced rate with effect from 01 Oct 19, subject to fulfillment of other conditions for grant of Ordinary Family Pension.

5.      It is requested that the contents of this letter be disseminated to all units under your Command.
