Veterans Guaranteed Insurance Claim upto 14 Lakh Rupees : Process and Rules

This is all about post retirement extended insurance coverage applicable to the Air Veterans retired from 01/07/2015. On occurrence, their family members may claim for the insurance benefit as per details and process mentioned here. 

Details of AVIC Extended Insurance Scheme

In case of unfortunate Death of ESM, who was a retired member of AFGIS, the nominee is required to forward the following documents to AFGIS:-

(a) Death Certificate. issued by Registrar of Birth and death (in original/ ink attested) by OIC ZSB. 

(b) AVIC Card (Original). Post Retirement Insurance Memorandum / Card issued by the Society in original. Sample given below.

(c) Nomination Form (AFGIS-224). Original. Approved Copy, issued by the AFGIS, having photos of the Nominee(s). Sample given below.

(d) AFGIS Death Claim Form. (AFGIS 222 & 229) in Original. A photograph of the beneficiary, duly attested by Secretary, Zila Sainik Board/ Magistrate / Stn Cdr of the nearest AF Unit/Prisident or Secretary AFA of respective branch is to be affixed in the place provided for in the claim from (AFGIS-222). Blank AFGIS -222 & 229 Form given below.

(e) Certificate by Bank: (AFGIS-229) on the back side of (AFGIS-222) is to be attested by the Bank Manager.

(f) Identity Proof of Widow/Claimant. At least one of the following documents to be given. Self attested. Adhaar Card/PAN Card/Voter ID Card/Passport/ JN-PPO/ ZSB ID Card of Widow. 

(g) Canceled Cheque/First Page of Bank Passbook of Widow. 

Note: The beneficiary will be as per the nomination executed by the member at the time of retirement.

Benefits : In case of Post Retirement Insurance Cover, only the sum assured will be payable in the event of death.

The Air Veteran Insurance Cover (AVIC) (erstwhile Post Retirement Insurance Cover) scheme provides insurance cover to the beneficiary of retired air warriors. The scheme was introduced for the first time for air warriors retiring on or after 01 Aug 1981. Initially the scheme was optional, the same were made compulsory with effect from 01 Nov 1991.

2.      Further, in Jan 2013, maximum age of insurance cover has been enhanced from 72 yrs to 75 yrs for all air veteran who retire on or after 01 Jan 11.

Documents required to be submitted by nominee for death claim

1.      The documents listed below are to be submitted by nominee to AFGIS to claim the PRIC insurance amount.

(a)           Death certificate in original or attested by any gazette office.
