Pending Eduation Grant (CEA for ESM) Since 2018 will be paid to Exservicemen this Year : Report by MoD

Children Education allowance (CEA) is admissible to Serving Central Govt Employees including Defence service personnel. You might have submitted application for Education Grant as you are not entitled CEA but not received any amount since 2018. Don’t worry you will get with arrears all that amount in your bank account soon. After retirement from Armed Forces i.e Army, Navy and Air Force, Children Education Grant for Exservicemen is admissible. This scheme was last revised in October 2011 into a monthly grant of Rs 1000/- (One Thousand) per month per child (for maximum two children) up to graduation and also for widows to pursue Post Graduation degree. Report of MoD clears Doubt and Arrears of Education Grant will be Paid

As per report published by Ministry of defence in the Financial year 2021-22, an amount of Rs 320 crore has been allotted for the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund (AFFDF) in Jan 2022 which is used for Welfare schemes of Veterans and war widows by Kendriya Sainik Board. According to them 1.58 Lakh application for Education Grant left pending since 2018. The amount allotted for the AFFDF will clear all the backlog in respect of the 1.58 lakh applications of Education Grant pending since May 2018 worth Rs 284.00 Cr and and 7583 applications of Marriage Grant pending since Feb 2020 worth Rs 36.00 Cr. Thus a total of 1.66 lakh ESMs will be benefitted through this initiative.

If you have not applied for Education Grant for this year, make it soon as no more delay will occur now. So, lets know about the details of eligibility critera and application for Education Grant which is popularly known as CEA after retirement.

Eligibility Criteria for Education Grant for ESM

This is applicable for classes 1 to 12 of school and undergraduate classes of a degree college. This grant is also admissible to widows who wish to pursue 2-year post graduate degree. This grant is not applicable for any of the professional or technical courses/degrees. Soldiers, sailors and Airmen upto the rank of Hav or equivalent are only eligible to apply.

How to Apply for Education Grant for ESM

Online application should be made on the prescribed application form with verification of concerned Zila Sainik Welfare Officer (ZSWO) online. Copies of the following documents duly attested by the respective Zila Sainik Welfare Officer must accompany the application:-

(a) Service Document/Discharge Book of ESM (Page that contains ESM/Personal Particulars,Service Particulars and Family Particulars )

(b) Exservicemen or Widow I-Card issued by respective ZSB.

(c) Mark-sheet / School Progress Card of child/children.

(d) Part –II Order mentioning names of the child(ren) for which grant is sought or there should be a proper entry to this effect in the Discharge Book/Documents.
