Revision of pension under OROP Scheme is pending since last three years. People are waiting eagerly for getting revised pension as scheduled at the time of implementation of OROP in 2015 by Ministry of Defence,  Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare.   

Most of us are aware that a case was filed in the Supreme Court to remove the anomaly in OROP and the court has taken a long years to give justice.   

After Active hearing of the case of One Rank One Pension (OROP) in Supreme Court which was listed during February and March 2022, the apex court has delivered the verdict on 16th March 2022.   Case Title: Indian Ex Servicemen Movement (An All India Federation Of Military Veterans Organization Represented Vs. Union Of India Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare Ministry Of Defence Secretary| Writ Petition (Civil) 419/2016.  

As per judgemet of the Supreme Court the Govt Defence authority was given three months time to implemet the OROP Revision which is due since July 2019 and to release the arrears for the period also.

  • The bench has directed that the re-fixation exercise as per the policy should be carried out with effect from July 1, 2019 and the arrears should be paid to the pensioners within 3 months.
  • The bench of Justices DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant and Vikram Nath refused to accept the challenge made by the Exservicemen  association “Indian Ex-Service Movement”.
  • The Court has delivered that “We accordingly direct that a refixation exercise must be conducted by the Govt. for a period of 5 years with regard to pension payable to Army Personnel as stated in the OROP policy in accordance with the November 7, 2015 notification.  Refixation exercise to be carried out from July 1, 2019 and arrears to be paid to Army personnel within 3 months”, the bench ordered while disposing of the petition.

Latest News 2022 on OROP Arrears

Now, the Ministry of Defence has failed to implement the OROP as ordered by Supreme Court and the infomation from the reliable source has confirmed that the Ministry has approached the Appex Court to allow the MoD for 3 months more to implement the Orders regarding implementation of OROP as this process required approval of Dept of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance and it involves preparation of Fixation table by the Pension authority i.e PCDA etc.

So you may expect your OROP Revision and payment of OROP arrears by December 2022.
