Wearing of Medals and Service Uniform for Exservicemen : Govt Rules

Medals awarded by Armed Forces Permitted to wear in these occasions by Veterans

Wearing of Medal in Civil Uniform by Ex-servicemen has been regulated by the instructions issued by Ceremonial & Welfare Directorate, Adjutant Generals’s Branch, Army Headquarters. According to the instruction in this matter, Veterans can wear medal in civil uniform also in some scheduled occasions. But medals can not be worn during meeting of any political party. Personnel dismissed from service and discharged on disciplinary grounds also are not entitled to wear medal in any occasion.

सेरेमोनियल एंड वेलफेयर डायरेक्टरेट, एडजुटेंट जनरल्स ब्रांच, आर्मी हेडक्वार्टर द्वारा जारी निर्देशों से भूतपूर्व सैनिकों द्वारा सिविल यूनिफॉर्म में मेडल पहनने का नियमन किया गया है। इस मामले में निर्देश के अनुसार पूर्व सैनिक कुछ निर्धारित अवसरों पर सिविल यूनिफॉर्म में भी मेडल पहन सकते हैं. लेकिन किसी भी राजनीतिक दल की बैठक के दौरान पदक नहीं पहने जा सकते। सेवा से बर्खास्त और अनुशासनात्मक आधार पर सेवामुक्त किए गए कार्मिक भी किसी भी अवसर पर पदक पहनने के हकदार नहीं हैं।

Occasions where Veterans can wear Medals awarded by Armed Forces

• Occasion in which veterans can wear full medals :
• Republic Day Parade
• Independence Day Function
• Service Day
• Vijay Diwas
• Wreath Laying on Memorial Day
• Reception a Rashtrapati Bhawan and Governor’s House
• Standard /Colour Presentation Parade / Functions
• Passing Out Parade
• Anniversary / Re-Union Functions
• When attending State or Military Funerals
• When invited to any official function by any Embassy Legation or High Commission
• At all Armed Forces functions including Exserviceman Rallies or Re-Unions
• When called upon in aid to civil power.
• When visiting any Military Headquarters on duty.

Occasions permitted for Wearing of Miniature medals by Veterans.

While attending official and private functions suh as Dinner, Cocktails, lunches ,Tea Party, Receptions etc during day and night.

Functions held in the messes, Institutions in connection with Service Day, Unit Anniversary, Re-Union functions.

Functions in connection with Republic Day Parade, Independence Day Parade, Standard/Colour Presentation, Reception at the Service Chiefs’ residence on the Service Day, Reception on Passing Out Parade etc.

When invited to any official function by any Embassy, Legation or High Commission.

At all Armed Forces functions including ex-serviceman’s rallies or re-unions.
