Pension hike of old aged pensioners

Pensioners of India are day by day facing financial hardship due to huge medical expenses in old age besides burden of price inflammation and independent living style. Earlier people at old age used to live with broad family. Now a days most of old aged pensioners are living only with spouse and mostly one pension, two members. In his situation there is a requirement of increase of pension according to age of the pensioners. Govt authority also in search of providing suitable remedy.

In this situation it is quite essential to increase the amount of pension. The matter has been raised by the pensioners organization several times and finally the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice has now recommended to the Govt to “sympathetically” consider the demand of Pensioners’ Association’s for additional quantum of pension as per details below :-

The Recommendation of standing ccommittee

  • on attaining the age of 65 years – 5% additional pension
  • on attaining the age of 70 years – 10% additional pension
  • on attaining the age of 75 years – 15% additional pension

At present, Central government pensioners are entitled to receive an additional quantum of pension equivalent to certain per centage of their basic pension on attaining the age as:

  • on attaining the age of 80 years – 20% additional pension
  • on attaining the age of 85 years – 30% additional pension
  • on attaining the age of 90 years – 40% additional pension
  • on attaining the age of 95 years – 50% additional pension
  • on attaining the age of 100 years – 100% additional pension


Based on the inputs received from various sources and considering the ‘Pensioner’s Grievances – Impact of Pension Adalats and Centralised Pensioners’ Grievance Redress and Monitoring System’, the panel headed by senior BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi has asked the Department of Pensions and Pensioners’ Welfarew (DoPPW) to pursue the issue “vigorously” with the concerned Department i.e Ministry of Finance and apprise the committee of the outcome.

It is expected that the pensioners will get a good news from the present Govt very soon and pensioners above 65 years of age will get the enhanced pension very soon.
