Wg Cdr Vinod Nebb was just a 22 year old under-trainee pilot when the 1965 war broke out. He was very eager to participate to overcome the humiliation of 1962. On his insistence, he was allowed to do Combat Air Patrol (CAP) and during one such sortie on Sep 06 1965 over Halwara, he shot down a Pakistani F86 Sabre aircraft. For his display of valour in the this War, he was awarded his first Vir Chakra by the President Dr  adhakrishnan. In 1971 during the liberation of Bangladesh War, he shot down the second Sabre aircraft and was awarded a second Vir Chakra by the President Shri V V Giri.
