Latest Reservation Rules for Ex-servicemen in Govt Jobs

Veteran Jawan, JCOs and Officers are know as Exservicemen who are provided with reservation benefits in various government and public sector undertaking (PSU) jobs. The reservation rules for ex-servicemen are governed by the Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979, and subsequent amendments. According to these rules, the following reservation benefits are provided to ex-servicemen:

Reservation in Group C and Group D posts : Ex-servicemen are provided with reservation in Group C and Group D (erstwhile) posts in the central government and state government jobs. The reservation for ex-servicemen is 10% of the vacancies in the category of Group C and Group D posts. However no such Gp D posts is there in Central Govt jobs now, all are comes under Gp C.

Age relaxation: Ex-servicemen are provided with age relaxation in government jobs. The extent of age relaxation varies depending on the length of service rendered in the armed forces. The maximum age relaxation for ex-servicemen is up to 5 years in Group C and D posts.

Preference in appointments: Ex-servicemen are given preference in appointments to the extent that they are not found unsuitable for the post. This preference is not applicable in the case of promotions.

Reservation in Bank and PSUs: Many public sector undertakings (PSUs) in India also provide reservation benefits to ex-servicemen in their recruitment processes. The extent of reservation varies depending on the policies of each PSU. IBPS & SBI recruits a huge number of Exservicemen for PSU Banks every year.

It is important to note that to be eligible for these reservation benefits, ex-servicemen must have completed their prescribed period of service in the armed forces and have been released from service in a manner that leaves them eligible for re-employment.
