Skill development initiatives in the Indian Army (IA) for prospective retirees as well as spouses/wards of serving soldiers is steered by Directorate of Indian Army Veterans (DIAV), Adjutant General’s Branch since 2016 under the GoIPradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).
Nearly1,10,000 troops at 41 Regimental Skill Training Centers (RSTCs) through 38 skill job roles have benefittedwith National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) skill certification under this scheme, while almost12,500 spouses/wards have been skilled at 37 Army Skill Training Centres (ASTCs)pan India.
Post a prolonged COVID driven hiatus of nearly two years, owing to concerted efforts by DIAV, theskills training has successfully recommenced through Project Sankalp{managed by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC)} wef Nov 22. Under the project, a total of28 Regimental Centres are involved in conducting training on 26 contemporary job roles. Till 31 Jan 23, a total of 1913 IA prospecive retirees have undertaken skills training under Project Sankalp.
Skills training under Project Sankalp is inimitable in many ways as it is allowing IA prospective retirees to become certified Trainers & Assessors in the National Skill Eco System. DIAV is ensuring that NSDC on-boards particulars of efficacious trainers/assessors on the Skill India Portal on priority so that the qualified candidates have larger visibility resulting in enhanced employment avenues.The project aims at empowering 5000 prospective retirees for a dignified second innings in the National Skills domain by Apr 2023.
