The selection process for UPSC entries

 In the final year of graduation you need to pass the CDS exam, and on passing clear the SSB interview, be medically fit and then join NDA/IMA/OTA provided you come in the merit list.    You may  get detailed guidance on the methodology of the SSB interview by reading special bulletin available in many websites . You can also get specialized training and guidance on clearing the interview by registering with renowned SSB Coaching Institutes.

Non-UPSC Entry Selection for Army Officer

If you meet the eligibility criteria the candidates are called for SSB to selection centers. If recommended and come in merit, they join the academies at IMA/ OTA.

Permanent Commission

An army career till you retire depending on rank (54 years for Colonel, 56 for Brigadiers, 58 for Major General and 60 for Lieutenant General. Short Service Commission

An initial period of 10 years followed by extension of four years. Selected candidates can be granted regular commission in the tenth year of service.
A stipend of  Rs 21, 000/ per month is given during training at IMA and OTA.

Army/Navy & A F Officers Entry NDA Entry – (UPSC Exam)

Eligibility criteria : 12th class of 10 + 2 or equivalent for Army with Physics and Maths for Air Force and Navy.

Age :  should be 16 – 19 years (as on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence)

Training – 3 years at the National Defence Academy , 1 year at the Indian Military Academy.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – May and December
Likely SSB dates – September – October and January – April.

Technical Entry Scheme

Eligibility :  10 + 2 Physics, Chemistry and Maths with aggregate over 70%.

Age :  should be 16 – 19 years (as on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence)

Training – 1 year at OTA and 4 years at Cadets Training Wing. (Commission after 4 years)
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – May and October.
Likely SSB dates –August – Oct and Feb – April.

Indian Military Academy (UPSC Exam)

Eligibility : Graduate from recognized university.

Age : Should be 19 – 24 years (as on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence)

Training – 1 and a half years at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – July and November.
Likely SSB dates –August – Oct and Feb – April.

Short Service Commission (For men and women, UPSC Exam)

Eligibility : Graduate from recognized university.

Training – 49 weeks at Officers training Academy, Chennai.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – July and November.
Likely SSB dates –Nov – Dec and Jul – Aug.

NCC Special Entry (Men and women)

Eligibility :  Graduate from recognized university with 50% aggregate marks, 2 years service in NCC with minimum of ‘B’ Grade in C Certificate exam.

Age :19 – 25 years (as on 01 Jan for the year course is to commence for April course and on 01 July for Oct course)

Training – 49 weeks at Officers training Academy, Chennai.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – June and December.
Likely SSB dates – Dec – Jan and Jul – Aug.

Technical Graduate entry

Eligibility :  B E/ B Tech in notified streams.

Age   :  Should be 20 – 27 years (as first day of the month on which course is to commence)

Training – One year at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – April and October.
Likely SSB dates – Mar – Apr and Sep – Oct.

University Entry Scheme

Eligibility :  Pre final year student of Engineering Degree Course.

Age  : Should be 18 – 24 years (as on 01 Jan for the year course is to commence for April course and on 01 July for Oct course)

Training – One year.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – June.
Likely SSB dates – Sep – Oct.

Technical Graduate Scheme (Education Corps)

Eligibility :  M A/ M Sc in First or Second Div in notified subjects from recognized university.

Age :  Should be 23- 27 years (as on 01 Jan for the year course is to commence for April course and on 01 July for Oct course)

Training – One year at IMA.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – April and October.
Likely SSB dates – March to April – and Sep – Oct.

Short Service Commission (Technical Entry)

Eligibility :  Engineering degree in notified stream.

Age 20 – 27 years (as on 01 Jan for the year course is to commence for April course and on 01 July for Oct course)

Training – 49 weeks at Officers training Academy, Chennai.
Notification of the exam in leading newspapers – April and October.

JAG Branch (Legal Officer Entry)

Eligibility :  Graduate with LLB with 55% marks .

Age :   Should be 21 – 27 years

Training – 49 weeks .
