The selection process for UPSC entries
In the final year of graduation you need to pass the CDS exam, and on passing clear the SSB interview, be medically fit and then join NDA/IMA/OTA provided you come in the merit list. You can also get specialized training and guidance on clearing the interview by registering with renowned SSB Coaching Institutes.
Non-UPSC Entry Selection for Army Officer
If you meet the eligibility criteria the candidates are called for SSB to selection centers. If recommended and come in merit, they join the academies at IMA/ OTA.

Permanent Commission
An army career till you retire depending on rank (54 years for Colonel, 56 for Brigadiers, 58 for Major General and 60 for Lieutenant General. Short Service Commission
An initial period of 10 years followed by extension of four years. Selected candidates can be granted regular commission in the tenth year of service.
A stipend of Rs 21, 000/ per month is given during training at IMA and OTA.

Eligibility criteria : 12th class of 10 + 2 or equivalent for Army with Physics and Maths for Air Force and Navy.

Indian Military Academy (UPSC Exam)
Eligibility : Graduate from recognized university.
Age : Should be 19 – 24 years (as on the first day of the month in which the course is due to commence)
Training – 1 and a half years at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

Likely SSB dates –August – Oct and Feb – April.
Short Service Commission (For men and women, UPSC Exam)
Eligibility : Graduate from recognized university.
Training – 49 weeks at Officers training Academy, Chennai.

NCC Special Entry (Men and women)
Eligibility : Graduate from recognized university with 50% aggregate marks, 2 years service in NCC with minimum of ‘B’ Grade in C Certificate exam.

Training – 49 weeks at Officers training Academy, Chennai.
