A Common Query on Age Relaxation

It is very common query I ever received that how long an Exservicemen can avail the ESM quota for Govt Jobs. As per Govt orders issued by Ministry of Defence and other Govt authorities, an Exservicemen can avail the benefits of reservation and age relaxation as per some the case study given here:

Govt Rules on Age Relaxation with Illustation / Case Study

Hav KK Singh Retired on 30 June 2014 after completion of 24 years of colour service on completion of terms of engagement and initially he decided to do his own business and not to join any job. Due to COVID-19 lockdown his business fall into crisis and he turned down his business activity. He is now 52 years old. To earn livelihood he decided to join a govt job duly availed the exserviceman quota. Hav KK Sing (Retd) raised some questions and answer of the questions are here:-

Question. 1. If he is eligible to get Exserviceman quota for Govt jobs now even after 7 years of retirement?

Answer. Yes, he is eligible to join Govt jobs now. There is no such restrictions to join govt jobs for Exservicemen and it does not matter in which year he got retired from the Armed Forces. He should meet the education, age and other specific criteria as per recruitment notification issued by the employer organization.

Question. 2. If he will be allowed to join any PSU bank clerk job through IBPS, SBI or any other recruitment agency?

Answer. Banks generally allowed the Exservicemen to join bank in clerical/equivalent posts upto the age of 50 years only unless anything else specified in the recruitment notification.

Question. 3. If he is eligible to join any Gp C or Gp B non gazette Post of Staff Selection Commission, PSU & State Govt etc ?

Answer. Yes, there is no general restriction for exservicemen to join any Govt job if otherwise he is eligible in terms of education criteria, age limit etc. So, Hav KK Singh is eligible to join any govt job and will not be debarred due to the gap period i.e. 7 years from his date of retirement. However, if any Govt organization mention any terms/conditions in their job notification regarding the allowable maximum gap period due to specific skill related issues, that to be followed.

(b) Definition of Ex-Servicemen, DOP&T Notification

(c) Applicability of instructions regarding reservation to SC/ST/OBC/Disability & Ex-servicemen as issued by Govt. Ministries/Departments to CPSEs-DPE.

(d) Benefit of reservation to Ex-servicemen, who applies for various examinations/vacancies before joining civil posts/services in the Government job on civil side-DOPT.
